Worship
In this blog, we’re using the word ‘worship’ in a unique way, not tied to specific religious expressions. Here, ‘worship’ is defined as a lens through which we examine what we prioritize and value most.
The word, ‘worship’ is derived from the Old English ‘Weorþscipe,’ meaning “worship, honor shown to an object,” or defined as “worthiness” or “worth-ship.” It is the act of assigning worth or worthiness, which simply means valuing something highly and holding it with great regard. What do you worship or assign worth to?
Different
We are all different, and that is good. Our faces, skin, hair, and eye colors are different. Our body shapes, fingerprints, thinking, desires, loves, dreams, what makes us happy, what makes us sad – all different. God made every person different, and every person is...
Obedience
Growing up, we played a card game called “Who am I?” The goal was to ask the cardholder questions to try and discover who or what was on the card the cardholder was holding. You would win when you guessed the correct answer.
Shepherding
Recently, a friend gave me the book The Way of the Shepherd (Leman and Pentak). The subtitle is Seven Secrets to Managing Productive People. The title caused instant intrigue, but as I read it, I was enthralled by the simple truths that can produce profound results. I...
Foundation
When we think of Daniel in the Bible, the story of the lions’ den usually comes to mind. It certainly was a heroic moment in the life of this great man.
And when we think of Daniel’s friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, our minds go to the story of the fiery furnace.
Friendship
Who are those people in the picture above? That’s a picture of the 1978 Ledford Senior High School graduating Class. We just had our 45th class reunion. Some things have changed, but some things are still the same. One of the unchanging things is the friendships...
Giving
We learn early on that it is better to give than to receive. Saint Francis of Assisi said, “For it is in giving that we receive.” And it was Winston Churchill who said, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” Giving is an integral part of being human.
Neighboring
“Neighboring,” what is it? It’s the art and science of getting to know the people around you. You encounter people where you live (houses, duplexes, apartments/condos, other), at work, where you play and shop – people are everywhere. So, everywhere is your neighborhood, and everyone is your neighbor. This isn’t rocket science, but it does require intentionality, time, and effort. Mix in some genuineness, care, kindness, and love; and you have the recipe for neighboring.
Older
Now and then, a young person refers to me as an “Old” person. I quickly say, “I am not old; I am older.” There is a big difference between being old and being older. Yes, it may be a chronological issue, but more important is that age is relative to your attitude, beliefs, and daily actions. Here’s a good example.
Awards
An award is something every person craves. Numerous awards are given in almost all fields, from literature to architecture. And there are some awards, absolutely bizarre in their aspects. They recognize some hilarious and rare achievements. Over the years, they have...
