July 4, also known as Independence Day, marks the anniversary of the Second Continental Congress adopting the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Congress, made up of delegates from the United States’ original 13 colonies, unanimously approved the Declaration of Independence, which declared independence from Great Britain. This declaration signaled freedom for the United States of America and provided the basic guidelines for acquiring and living in freedom.
Freedom is what everyone longs and strives for. We want to be free! Free from the things that bind us or we perceive that bind us. Free to be individuals and make our own decisions. Free to pursue happiness, purpose, meaning, and direction in life. The desire to be free is not taught or learned but radiates from our souls. So, what in our soul impedes freedom? FEAR
Fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined. The seat of fear is in the mind part of the soul, and fear can wreak havoc on your soul and the pursuit of freedom. Fear can be obvious or subtle, but it leaves a person in bondage. The fear of failure, rejection, physical harm, and emotional trauma can torment us. So, what moves one from fear to freedom? FAITH
Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. It can be religious or non-religious, but faith is about believing, and believing is founded on our beliefs. Beliefs, religious or non-religious, are the core truths that provide the foundation for living life to the fullest. If our beliefs are unfounded, wavering, conflicted, or missing, we will experience fear. But, when our beliefs are rightly aligned with truth, not matter what the situation (good or bad) we can find peace. Internal peace produces trust, confidence, a feeling of safety, clear thinking, and quality decision-making. Freedom begins in your soul (mind, will, and emotions) and will manifest itself in the external world.
At Doing Good at Work, we believe that everyone should be free from bondage to live a life of freedom. That’s why we encourage, engage, and empower businesses and organizations to promote healthy workplaces that provide services that support the whole person.
