Rushing
C

I ask myself a question: “What would it feel like if I wasn’t rushed?” I am not sure I know. Truth is, I can’t image what that would feel like because rushing here and there has become a way of life for me—not only for me but for so many. When you look at our world today, rushing is at epidemic levels.

We all experience the symptoms of rushing around, but do we really understand the root of the issue? When you look deeper, you see that the root is FEAR.

Fear is an emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. It could be a physical danger, but more likely, it’s a mental or emotional danger. Add in a little “not getting what you want” or “not getting your way,” and you have a powerful energy force spinning inside you.

What are some fears at the root of rushing?

FOMO – Fear of Missing Out | FOL – Fear of Losing (and not winning) | FONBA – Fear of Not Being Accepted –  FONHE – Fear of Not Having Enough – FOMU – Fear of Messing Up – FOLC – Fear of Losing Control

These fears are somehow connected to our self-identity, self-worth, and self-value. What fears drive you to rush?

Here‘s a simple truth: we need to stop, but that is hard. Here’s what I find that helps.

I intentionally tell myself to slow down. I then step back and look honestly at what I am doing to myself and others. Doing this helps me reorient and refocus on what matters most. I hit the reset button, initiate a new plan, and take the first step forward. That’s easier said than done but remember: We decide to change when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing. Here’s to slow down and operating at a safe speed in life.
